Review: Volume Drive Dedicated Servers

There are many players in the Dedicated Server market these days, however Volume Drive sets itself apart from their competitors with exceptional customer service, and incredible pricing.

The server we are reviewing is specced below:

  • AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 631 Quad-Core Processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 1TB HDD
  • Gigabit Port
  • New York Data Center

Price: $29.95 (Gigabit Port $10 extra) / Month

Benchmark Results

CPU model : AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 631 Quad-Core Processor
Number of cores : 4
CPU frequency : 2600.000 MHz
Total amount of ram : 7852 MB
Total amount of swap : 8095 MB
System uptime : 6 days, 3:21,
Download speed from CacheFly: 7.90MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 26.1MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 21.5MB/s

Needless to say on a gigabit port that comes at an additional charge, these speeds are nowhere near acceptable.

I opened several tickets with support and emailed back and forth with them about the issue. They made every effort to try and figure out the problem, however it has yet to be resolved. If you are taking their 100mbit unmetered connection, then there’s nothing to worry about.

Overall it’s been a good experience, however they cannot adequately service a gigabit port on my server and for that very reason, I will not be keeping the box that I have with them.

Customer Service: 10/10
Support Response Time: 10/10
Above and Beyond: 10/10
Network Speed: 8/10
